During the Var trip, this butterfly species out-shone all others in it's vivacity and was a joy to behold. Evidently slightly later emerging than the Southern Festoon, many of them were fresh, as was the one depicted in the photo. This, like the other Festoons is a Springtime species, photographed in late April.
